The collapse of the Soviet Union profoundly impacted everyday life in the national republics, and underground performance art provided a space for imagining alternative socio-political movements amid the transition. This project explores lesser-known experimental participatory practices from the 1980s through the 1990s in Georgia, including land art, body art, and video art. As at once a study of experimental art amidst political turmoil and transition of the 1980s and 1990s, the project also attends to the continued relevance of these forms of art in shaping our political present and intervening in authoritarian violence.
